Brief Description

Recognising that the information and media sector play a significant role in the development of nations and regions, the ASEAN Plus Three Countries have developed a Work Plan on Enhancing ASEAN Plus Three Cooperation Through Information and Media (2012-2017) which consists of 17 concrete activities. Among others, the activities include exchanges of media personnel, co-production arrangements, and training for broadcasting personnel. The activities are funded by the ASEAN Plus Three Cooperation Fund or other funds from the Plus Three Countries.   One of the activities that Malaysia takes lead as a country coordinator is the media organizations visit to ASEAN Member States and Plus Three countries. The aim of the visit is to promote capacity building and enhance cooperation amongst news organisations/entities of ASEAN Plus Three countries.   Malaysia proposes that the visit shall be conducted with two media representatives from each ASEAN Member State. The ASEAN Member States shall select a Plus Three Country of its choice - in this proposal it is Japan. Upon agreement, the Plus Three Country as the host country shall organize the visit. In the following year, the ASEAN Member States in turn will visit another Plus Three Country of its choice. The visit will continue until all ASEAN Member States have visited all the Plus Three Countries

Objective

· Enhance better networking and news exchanges to promote ASEAN cross cultural understanding in line with the envisioned ASEAN community.  Exchange of ideas on the roles and strategies of print media in the ever changing media landscape eg. New media, social media, Facebook, etc. · Understanding of Japan’s culture, economy, politics, media/ICT development  such as Cyber Security and to explore Japanese knowledge on ICT and Cyber Security and  Japan’s experience in facing natural calamities · Enhance better networking and news exchanges to promote ASEAN cross cultural understanding in line with the envisioned ASEAN community.  Exchange of ideas on the roles and strategies of print media in the ever changing media landscape eg.
