Pursuant to the decision of the 48th COCI meeting in held in Siam Reap, the workshop on the Palm Leaf Manuscripts in ASEAN Countries was held in Vientiane, Lao PDR on 15-16 December 2015. The Workshop was convened to bring together regional experts from ASEAN Member States which discussed ideas, experiences and relevant strategies for ancient books preservation.

Share the current state of preservation in respective AMS nations and address immediate problems and needs. Identify common and unique problems concerning human resources, technological expertise and physical challenges. Identify areas in which collaboration and the exchange of ideas can be made among the participating ASEAN countries. Utilize the expertise of three specialists from Malaysia, Thailand and Laos on the ways of preservation.
